The CNI staff strives to provide neurological assessment in an unparalleled and compassionate manner. Each member of the CNI neurodiagnostic team is either board certified in a neuroscience field, is board eligible in a neuroscience field or has specialized post-doctoral experience/training in neurology or a related field. A prestigious CNI diagnostic imaging team adds the level of expertise and experience required to help the onsite staff address those with neurological, cardiovascular or neuromuscular disorders. The CNI staff recognizes the importance of assisting those who suffer from movement disorders, cognitive impairment or physical limitations related to neurological compromise.

Dr. David Durrant is a recognized authority in the fields of neurology, neuroimaging, and spinecare. Dr. Durrant is a Board-Certified Chiropractic Neurologist who is the founder and current Director of the Chicago Neuroscience Institute (CNI). He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Anatomy and Physiology prior to receiving his Doctorate in Chiropractic, Cum Laude, from Logan College of Chiropractic. Dr. Durrant completed post-doctoral training, a neurology residency and achieved board certification. He was awarded prestigious Fellow Status with the American College of Spine Physicians. Dr. Durrant received a PhD in Health Services for his work in artificial intelligence and computational pathology. His research focused on spine imaging and the virtual biopsy.
Dr. Durrant is the President of the American Academy of Spine Physicians. He represents the United States on the Board of the International Spine Association (ISA). In addition to his leadership roles Dr. Durrant is an accomplished neuroscience author and editor having authored numerous publications and textbook chapters in the fields of neurology and artificial intelligence. He is the principal author and co-editor of a benchmark publication in titled, MYELOPATHY, RADICULOPATHY AND ENTRAPMENT AND SYNDROMES. Dr Durrant has over 30 years of clinical experience encompassing the areas of neurology, neuroimaging and neurophysiology. He has received referrals from over 400 physicians of various disciplines.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Rachael Costello is a registered dietitian nutritionist, licensed in the state of Illinois. She also has a certificate of training in food allergies. Rachael received her baccalaureate degree in dietetics from the University of Northern Colorado and her Masters of Science in Applied Nutrition from the University of New England. She completed her dietetic internship at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. Rachael is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is a part of the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine Dietetic Practice Group.
Rachael began her career as a clinical dietitian for Resurrection Life Center in Chicago. She then worked for Van Matre HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Rockford, followed by Martin Luther Manor in Bloomington, MN. She is currently an adjunct faculty at Harper College in the Nutrition Department and runs a private practice in Algonquin, IL.
The phrase “Let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food,” is the center of Rachael’s nutrition philosophy. She believes there is no quick fix to chronic health problems but that by fueling our bodies with real food, we can see great improvements to these conditions. Rachael provides nutrition education, medical nutrition therapy, and nutritional counseling. She works with her patient’s healthcare team to provide the best possible health outcomes.
Program Coordinator for Preventive Medicine and Nutrition Services
Stavroula Antonopoulos is a nutrition professional and an aspiring dietitian. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences with a dietetics emphasis from the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. Throughout her undergraduate career, she volunteered in Tucson’s diverse community focusing on food insecurity and health promotion and education. Currently, she is pursuing her Master of Science in Human Nutrition with a community concentration at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. She is passionate in ameliorating childhood obesity through health promotion and education.
Human Performance Specialist
William Delaney earned a Bachelor of Science in Health from Northern Illinois University in 2012 with an emphasis on the therapeutic approach to rehabilitation. He became a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and worked as a fitness professional for two years before obtaining a role as a Metabolic Specialist in 2015. Through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, he has enriched his understanding of biomechanics by acquiring a certification as a Corrective Exercise Specialist. He was one of a select few chosen to set the standard for the NASM Certified Personal Trainer exam through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
William is currently training to achieve status as a professional bodybuilder in the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation as he continues to develop his role as Human Performance Specialist at the Chicago Neuroscience Institute. In addition to his position at the Institute and his athletic endeavors, he plans to expand his academic profile by becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Registered Vascular Technologist
Michael Fisher is a cardiovascular technician with over 25 years of experience assisting physicians in the diagnosis and care of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Michael is currently the Director of the Noninvasive Cardiovascular Lab at the Chicago Neuroscience Institute (CNI). Michael specializes in the performance of adult echocardiography (heart ultrasound) and peripheral vascular imaging including carotid/vertebral ultrasound and varicose vein mapping. In addition to performing sonographic studies Michael helps direct teleradiology and telecardiology services at CNI. He also is also instrumental in developing quantitative methods for assessing sonographic data. Michael obtained an Associate of Science (AS) degree in cardiac rehabilitation from William Rainey Harper College and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BS) degree in biology from Northeastern Illinois University. Michael is a registered vascular technologist is an active member of ARDMS and the Northern Illinois Echo Society. In addition to being on staff at CNI he is the lead Echo/Vascular technologist at Vista Health Systems where he performs work on behalf of cardiologists. Prior to that he served as a cardiac sonographer at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital. Michael has served as a clinical coordinator and a diagnostic cardiovascular ultrasound instructor in numerous settings.
Director of Digital Marketing and Social Media
Amanda Durrant serves as the Director of Digital Marketing and Social Media for the Chicago Neuroscience Institute (CNI). She is creative communicator with experience in healthcare and social media. She is a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and is currently pursuing a degree in business and marketing. Social media and web-based resources have become a vital communications tool in healthcare. Amanda is committed to working at the leading-edge of digital media development for CNI. She is currently pursuing Social Media Healthcare Certification offered by Mayo Clinic and Hootsuite. The program combines the progressive expertise of a world-renowned healthcare facility with that of an industry leader in social media. Amanda helps CNI stay up to date with the latest digital communication solutions and social media trends to better serve patients, referring healthcare providers and the public. To help achieve these goals Amanda collaborates with other CNI team members to help ensure a professional image and informative approach.

Clinical Assistant
Christine Durrant is the Chief Administrator Officer of the Chicago Neuroscience Institute (CNI). She has held this position for over 15 years. Prior to her role at CNI she served as the Office Manager of Durrant Clinic for approximately 10 years. Christine obtained a baccalaureate of science (BS) degree at Northern Illinois University, majoring in education. Prior to working in the clinical setting Christine served as an elementary schoolteacher in District U-46 and Batavia School District. Christine has been instrumental in the development of business protocols surrounding the design and implementation of new services. Christine has vast experience in staff hiring, staff supervision, medical billing, and collections. In addition to her business role she also serves as a clinical assistant. Christine has completed postgraduate coursework in gait analysis in custom orthotic development. She assists in the of performance of various clinical services such as non-mydriatic retinal imaging, electrocardiography, body composition analysis, acquisition of data during gait analysis and ordering of orthotics. Christine plans to become certified as a health coach through Mayo Clinic.
In addition to her administrative role at CNI, Christine serves as the Executive Director of the American Academy of Spine Physicians. Christine has always had an interest in sports and human performance. She was a varsity cheerleader for Northern Illinois University has was awarded the prestigious opportunity in high school to participate on the National Superstar Drill Team Aloha Bowl in Hawaii. Christine is the mother of four girls who are all Junior Olympians in track and field with USATF.
Telehealth refers to the use of electronic information and telecommunication technologies such as computers, the web and mobile devices to support and promote long-distance health care and related education. The broad topic of telehealth encompasses telemedicine, which specifically refers to the use of technology share data and obtain intent of the data at a distance. CNI staff has access to remote specialists (independent contractors) to interpret diagnostic studies and data acquired with onsite testing.

Dr. David Berns is a board-certified neuroradiologist who provides the Chicago Neuroscience Institute (CNI) with remote diagnostic interpretation of diagnostic carotid/vertebral artery ultrasound studies. He also provides CNI with remote diagnostic interpretation of peripheral vascular studies. Dr Berns completed a Fellowship in neuroradiology at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and his medical training at Case Western Reserve University.

Peter A. Karth, MD, MBA is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal physician and surgeon who provides the Chicago Neuroscience Institute (CNI) with services limited to remote diagnostic interpretation of non-mydriatic retinal images. Dr. Karth has had excellent training and extensive experience in ophthalmologic and retinal disease and surgery. He completed his Vitreoretinal Fellowship training at Stanford University, and subsequently joined the clinical faculty as an Assistant Clinical Professor, as well as serving on the teaching faculty at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University as a Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor. He previously completed his surgically intense ophthalmology residency at Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Karth attended University of Illinois at Chicago for medical school, while concurrently completing his MBA degree at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Dr. Peter Karth has contributed to many popular and peer-reviewed ophthalmic publications and has given many research presentations at national and international conferences.

Joseph Freedman, MD is a board-certified cardiologist who provides the Chicago Neuroscience Institute (CNI) with remote diagnostic interpretation of transthoracic echocardiographic (heart ultrasound) studies. Dr. Freedman brings many years of experience as a cutting-edge cardiologist specializing in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of all cardiac disease. He trained at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, continually ranked #1 in Cardiovascular Care, where he focused on cardiac imaging. He achieved Fellowship status in cardiovascular disease at the Cleveland clinic. Additional accomplishments include five board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Comprehensive Adult ECHO, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiac CT.
